Right around the time my husband and I were planning our wedding, i read an article about the devastation that can come from mining gold and diamonds. From the general devastation of the ecosystems to the toxic chemicals used (like mercury and cyanide!) This was going to be a symbol of our love, but all i could think of was the devastation behind it. I ended up finding this great jeweler in NYC. She melts down old gold and recycles gems into amazing new, modern jewelry. We both got our rings from her and now they have all the more meaning for us. And we get so many compliments that, as a bonus, my husband always knows where to buy me a birthday gift!
