Epicurean Ideals
1:1 1, 1:1
The Greek teacher and philosopher, Epikouros, encouraged his disciples to live very simply so that genuine pleasure could be felt in the simplest moments. In the past three years I have come to embrace the wisdom of this advice, though not always by deliberate means. My fiance and I lost our condo, we withdrew from the company of our friends, I lost my grandmother and my father, and I found myself unemployed and in deteriorating health. Now I have learned to downsize my belongings to only those things I need or love. I've become more peaceful in my solitary moments and more grateful for the company of my loved ones. I have a part-time, but very fulfilling job at a library that I love. I get enough sleep and I've discovered the deep pleasure and nourishment to be had from simple, organic foods like local veggies, grass-fed meats, and dark, dark chocolate.
