Balancing the green and the black in our home is not always easy but we have come up with several solutions. We have four teenagers, a one year old and five dogs. This makes for a crazy household. We are a very green family though and, in fact, we run a family owned green catering company. All items that we use are recycled and made from post-consumer materials. This helps our children to be confident in the fact that we care about the environment that we are creating for them. We have learned how to be green still have our indulgences though. Ice Cream containers were a major issue. So, we learned how to make homemade ice cream. By teaching the kids how to create homemade items, it cuts down on the amount of things being recycled and helps the kids learn how to make great food. Also, by buying in bulk, we have less to recycle. We will probably never be a perfect family but I know that we are doing what we can to ensure we are setting a great example for our children.
